Fitted a new Hydroflo float valve assembly in my bathroom loo today and inside the feed in pipe was a spiral of plastic which I threw out and subsequently found out acts as a flow restrictor.

The cistern runs off mains rather than the cold tank and having left the restrictor off, the cistern fills in about ten seconds. Brilliant.

But is it OK to run the cistern off this high pressure mains water or should I fit the restrictor and slow it all down a bit?

All the destructions say is "remove factory fitted flow restrictor if inlet pressure is below 2psi (1.5bar or 50 ft head)".

Not overly helpful?

Ah, you need to fit it.

I always fit it if it run off the main cold water. If it run off cold storage tank, I take it off.

Dan.
