My walls are solid 9", so I want something that can go all the way through from one side. This is the wall cutter I was looking at. It can cut to a depth of 10", which is ideal.

They also do a 14" diamond disc cutter, which looks a beast it also cuts to a depth of 10" but looks more of a challenge to control. It's also almost double the weekly hire price and probably more once they have charged me for diamond wear.

Do you still think I'll be better off with the Disc cutter? The wall saw looks like it's built for cutting through brick but if it take double the time it will be a false economy.

Anyone used one of those wall cutters? How'd you get on?

Jon, I'd open up a new thread, some people just skip over old threads if the subject heading isn't of interest. You seem to have some unique factors involved in your project.

Also, if you can get some photos and upload them, that really helps people get a handle on your job.

Good Luck, Monsoon.

I skip old threads that peeps reopen normally because the original thread has been answered. Open an new thread and i might read your question

Not seen one of those used before so don’t know how good they are but if your walls are solid brick I think it would severely struggle! I would go with the ring saw but that’s a hell of a hire price & if you damage the disc they are expensive!

I was able to borrow one off a builder friend & bought 2 masonry cutting discs (he wouldn’t give me his diamond cutter!) £2 each as opposed to £40 for the diamond disc. I only used one disc in the end & it worked fine, although it’s now rather smaller than it was! Although they looks quiet frightening & make a hell of a racket, it was actually easy to use. They work very well & give a nice neat edge; & unless you look closely, you can't really tell the difference between my new, cut openings & the original brick formed ones.
