My upstairs floors are all chipboard in a poor state and creak like mad, thinking as I decorate each I will lift floors and replace, but with what, plywood appears so expensive.
What size can I purchase as 8x 4 is going to be really hard to handle for one person?

can I use normal glass fibre to sound proof between ceiling and floor.

1970s built detached house, upper floors.

Get the timber merchant to reduce the 8 x 4's on his table-saw to a convenient size.

Loft insulation is relatively poor as a sound insulator.

Chipboard floors are a pain as many were poorly installed; often the intersection between boards are over voids & not over joists. This results in the tongues breaking-off and the boards forever moving. There is a fix - cut access and introduce battens below, glued & screwed. This has the effect of supporting the moving joints. Pull the existing boards down using screws (I bet the original floor was nailed and over the years the boards have loosened on the nails). Always observe good practice when blind fixing floors (pipes & cables below!!!). So my observation is try to fix the existing floor as above.
