I have a Nissan primastar 52 plate 84000 miles and a major problem its been 2 garages so far. first the ecu and wiring got replaced as the engine kept fading out and the engine management light would come on.
after a 2nd hand ecu replace and the wiring re done it drove ok for a year, and then the same fault keeps coming back, now its been to another garage they checked the wiring and all seem ok for couple days, it now sometimes don't even start in the mornings as the dreaded re light flashes, or it will just cut out in the middle of driving and red light on again!

the garages cant diagnoise the problem or don't want the work.. any ideas. the fault codes that come up are errors with pre heater and fuel pressure circuit open/short
I know nothing about vans or cars so any help or advice be appreciated. This all started after a new cluth was put in spent about £2000 so far and still the re light flashed this morning meaning I could not go use it.

Its very time consuming and somtimes impossible for the average garage or mechanic to find a fault like this.
If the original fault was cured by the ecu and wiring replacement then you have to start there first. I would check all wiring and connections to and from the ecu multiplug and components in the engine bay but this can be very difficult for a novice.
It may even pay you to send the ecu away for testing as i know they do have faults on this particular model.
Do you have the fault codes listed that were taken from the car?

i don't have the codes, but apparently the 2nd garage checked over all the wiring from the ecu etc and to the fusebox and plugs all ok which cost me £255.00.

I rang Nissan and explained the van keeps just cutting out whilst driving and the engine management light, and they said straight away that it is something to do with the pressure release valve and fuel pump?..

maybe I get this changed but im throwing more money than the van is worth..

I know the van is related to a vauxhall vivaro so if it suffers the same sort of problems as these you have my sympathy.
Looks like you have 3 options here, find a recommended diesel specialist good with diagnostics(almost impossible) or put it in to the main dealer and bite the bullet.
The third option is just sell it as spares or repair and cut your losses, harsh but it may cost you £1000 to put it right.

Hello
Just to let you know the fault with your was the centre connector on your ecu which i replaced with a second hand engine loom and gave the van a valet and polish and sold on for £2350, BTW whoever done your clutch wants f5$&kin" they made a bit of a mess of it and not a drop of oil in the gearbox

wow u did alright m8. well done for fixing it, i have not a clue about cars and vans, the clutch though i paid a grand for that to be fixed as u saw the recipet done by a proper garage -chesfield motor works... im sure they did something to the wiring too as after the clutch i had all the problems!!
