No hot water (picture of setup)

Hello all.....

I have central heating but no hot water unless I turn the water heater on(which I imagine is more expensive).

Its a GloWorm Fuel Saver 2 boiler. The pump in the the diagram is a Grundfos and the therms are all Honeywell.

A=Lukewarm
B=Warm
C=Hot
D=Hot
E=Lukewarm

Any guesses before I get the plumbers in.

Possibly silver box on lower left of picture has stuck in heating position.

would suggest a problem with your 3 port valve, the silver box with 3 pipes going into it

What should it be set to , 'auto' I presume?

yup auto is right but is it moving

Doesn't appear to be moving, is it spring loaded or summat. Moving as in side to side?

hot water is normally the rest position if it aint moving as oilman suggested it may well be stuck

ok so stuck meaning somewhere in side this valve? Is this a diy job or professional services? If so any ideas on cost?

Slide the lever over to the right, does it spring back.

Your problem could be.

A, an electrical fault, no power to the valve perhaps.
B, the valve is stuck in the heating position.
C, air in the pipe, have you vented that thing by the cylinder.

Apologies MOD (newbie mistake!!)

The lever does not spring back.

A) Should be power as it's also powering the pump(Grundfos)
B) Fair enough
C) The thing by the cylinder and venting mmmm do you mean the pump?

if it dont spring back its stuck, you have tu turn the power off todoit.

c, no the little cap on the top of the pipe by the cylinder

the microswtch in the valve powers the pump

dont mean the valve has power

Ok, well with the cover off and moving the lever, there is no sign of action from the cogs(I presume there should be?).


As for the pump and power, just an educated guess at the wiring looking at its setup, but hey what do I know!!!
