no joy

In a few cases you would get some efficiency savings, but in many cases gain nothing. It would depend on usage, exact conditions the boiler ran under, and for oil, depend on the batch of oil. Therefore you could set the boiler and a couple of weeks later get some different oil which may cause more sooting. That's rare but things like that do happen. Their figures may be realistic, but when you consider a 7 to 10% saving available by turning the thermostat down by 1 degree, you can see the relatively small benefit. You can also see they have already written your thesis.

A better way of saving energy, is to wear suitable clothing, not by generating mini-climates.

But surely if most people got there boiler serviced as to opposed to not many at all tho the savings are min over the area of a hole country there would be massive savings in energy consumption and that would go in hand with reduced CO2 emissions.

What would be the point in servicing a boiler to make sure it was running to manufactures spec and running efficiently as it could run. Surely if its the safety aspect and a boiler was producing high levels of CO surely that boiler would not be running efficiently sooting up ect. (Whats soot unburnt fuel not very efficient)

The statement has already been made that a more efficient boiler produces more CO2, that is why it is efficient, it is burning as much as possible.

I am not sure what you are getting at in your second paragraph.

Sorry oilman thats very true that the more efficient the boiler the more CO2 it will produce becasue its burning as much of that fuel as possible but then you could argue the other way and say well its using less fuel comsumption therefore saving on CO2 emissions from that aspect. The second paragraph relates to say for arguement sake the fuel to air ratio was way off on an oil burner (poor combustion) that boiler would use more fuel consumption than if the burner was serviced and running to manufactures spec. That is what my thesis is all about Energy Management (Buildings) (Ways to Save Energy)

In practice VERY FEW oil burners change their settings on a voluntary basis. Even where the CO2 level is low, the efficiency does not change by more than a few %.

Soon all this efficiency bit will not matter much because a) oil could be too expensive to burn, and b) the power generation in the UK will not meet the demand as power stations are retired, leaving no electricity to control the boilers.

Better get a sheep and wear its coat.

Or a Milwaukee M12™ Cordless Heated Jacket recharged from solar energy.
