Several months ago we refitted our bathroom with new bath, toilet, basin, tiles etc etc
Our water supplies are mains pressure cold and gravity fed hot water tank heated by the boiler, this also does the central heating.
The basin tap is 1/4 turn ceramic single outlet mixer tap. When using the cold the pipes make quite a noise whereas the hot is perfectly silent.
As the hot is gravity fed the flow is quite slow compared to the cold so what I've done (probably incorrectly) is close the check valve slightly to reduce the flow to match that of the hot. Could this be the source of the noise? Is there a different (proper but relatively cheap) way of reducing the flow of the cold which will also quieten it down?
The w/c fill suffers from the same problem of noise when filling. The fill valve looks like perhaps a cheap copy of the Fluidmaster type. Could the 'cheapness' of the valve supplied with the toilet be the cause of this noise?
