It's strange that despite being a massive Sweeney & Minder fan the first thought that entered my head when I heard the news was him 'slapping Rula about a bit'.
 
If he's only just died aged 74, he looked older than his years when he was busy on TV.

A heavy smoker, perhaps?

Friend of a friend was living in London and drank in DW's local years ago. One day he decided to put the Minder theme on the jukebox for a laugh when Waterman was in the pub. Soon as it started, Waterman jumped up and called out "leave it out, Jim" to the landlord - who obliged by cutting the music.

Judging by the number of posts about him on here, looks like he was mostly quite liked.

The two weeks of mourning starts now. :(
