After a recent post of mine, I thought I'd put feelers out.

Of those of you who have contacted their BCO re notifiable jobs, what has been the response?

Have any councils turned a blind eye?

Have any only asked for minimum inspections?

How many have been really obstructive?

A friend of mine (very competant plumber who also has some electrical quals.) has just finished his loft conversion (new circuits etc).Building control came round, looked, said 'who done your wiring', my friend said 'I did', Bc said 'ok, it looks good' and that was that.

First fix inspection with everthing on display (cable runs, joist drillings etc), then as long as they are happy, close up, final inspection and testing, and sign off has been my experiance.

Anybody else got any experiences? Hoping to gather evidence of how other councils are dealing with Part P.

Mine are pretty good, they only charge £65 for work estimated up to £1000. That, apparently is the standard charge nationally.
I email my quals and EIC accepted.

£65 standard charge nationally - dream on!!

From my research last year to see if Part P was worth it the average is nearer £150 with some London Boroughs like Bromley and Sutton charging over £300. Even at £150 it soon made me get registered just for my limited amount of work. I wonder if anyone actually bothers notifying the expensive boys them of anything?

I wired a new Kitchen extension, utility room, cloakroom and conservatory that I had built on my home last summer. I had a nice chat with the LABC before work started and they were very helpful. I sketched out a drawings of each circuit before I started work and left these for the BCO when he came to inspect the foundations. He made a few helpful suggestions and then came to inspect the first fix before the walls & ceilings were boarded. On completion he arranged a final test leaving me the certificate when finished.

As I am working I was never present for the inspections and they were made in conjunction with the inspection of the other building work which was paid for by my builder so I can't really comment on the cost.

In summary, it was a lot less hassle than I expected and I found the LABC to be helpful and friendly I felt as if they really wanted me to succeed.

Also, I have to acknowledge the help I got from the folks on this forum during the process.

For my rewire, SMBC want a total of £430.00. And they say they will only come out a maximum of twice - that fee cannot cover multiple visits (I want to do the work over many weekends as that's when I get the time).

FFS, you may as well get registered yoruself for that price!

Is that the standard price for works *picks figure out the air* costing around £3,000 , afaik they can't make a special case and charge more just becuase its part P rather than part A (structure, incase you were wondering)
