Novice neds more help

I use my notebook via a wireless lan system. my son shares this system with a hard wire connection. He now wishes to run another wireless lan box from his end of our connection to run a x box. Is my computer going to be in any danger or will I lose power as result of his actions.

My son said not bother you because he is only splitting to an ftp connection,whatever that means. I don't mind as long as my new notepad is not going to suffer. I should add my son does have a grasp of the computer workings. This is just me being careful.
