Hi all, some advice please.

I'm getting a re-roof done on a small chapel hall. They have finished the felt and battening however I've noticed lots of holes (some the size of a ten pence piece) and tears in the felt outside of the overlapping sections (see photos below of one area). They are wanting to fit the tiles next week - are these holes/rips acceptable or should i ask them to tape or repair them, if so what with?

This is costing a huge amount so want to make sure it's be done to a good quality finish.
Thanks

Tell them to replace the felt and get it right. Then inspect before they tile. If they want to patch, I'd be inclined to get someone else.

Acceptable, no - the felt is the rooves secondary seal, to ensure ant weather which makes it's past the tiles, or it case of tile loss. I cannot comment on methods of repair.. Seems they may have been careless about removing the old nails, managed to miss some, and they have holed the felt.

Remove the battens, renew the membrane - do not accept repairs.

This should put you on notice that the roofers are poor, so be wary of what other things they mess up.

Thanks for the comments. The roof is about 90 m2 and unfortunately there is no chance they will re-lay everything i'm afraid. Can anyone advise a felt repair tape or similar that i should ask them to use? Thanks

I'm not suggesting you should accept this as a repair, but were it me doing that roof, I would expect that the wide Gorilla waterproof outdoor repair tape might be the best you can get. It looks like selotape, but is moisture proof.
