Any installers here going for it? I am, I was made redundant a few weeks ago and every job I've applied for requires this or be prepared to work towards it, seems the MTC card in surveying and installation isn't quite enough now, £1000 deal this is, more expense!

I guess window fitters have been left to their own devices and just got on with it for long enough now, times are changing

Other than someone asking about costs on a Facebook forum I haven't heard anything about it.
Whats going on?

Seems like just another way to get more money out of us. I won't be doing it

Is it something to do with self certification, just interested.

Thanks.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it's not although some jobs do state MTC card OR the equivalent NVQ qualification will be required, I've been fitting windows before NVQs were even invented and I haven't got any NVQs in fenestration - I just know how to do the job, but it seems now to come into the job requires this qualification. The interviewer today didn't have a clue whether the MTC was the equivalent to an NVQ but sided with it not so could only offer me £8ph until I sat the exams and passed as I wasn't qualified technically, the process takes 3 months and has a fair bit of reading to do.

Its getting ridiculous now.
Does it cover surveying and fitting. Dont tell me its £1000 for each and it will be obsolete in a few years so they can bring out another test to charge us for.
Time to put the prices up again me thinks

Done my NVQs couple of years back.
The company who done our MTC test also offered the apprenticeship scheme.
They put one of our lads through a 6 month period and done my Level 2 & 3 at the same time.

I was under the impression that once you've gained the NVQs equivalent to the MTC, you then don't have to pay for the MTC Certass/Fensa renewal every 3/5yrs??!
Yet I'm sure I've now read somewhere that these qualifications needed to have been held before approx 2014, if not the MTC card will still be required.
Maybe wrong

Fit show tomorrow if anyone's about for a beer.
