I remember watching that documentary. Was quite good 
If I remember, he built it... it was then too late for the planning department to do anything about it and then he appealed to HRH giving her permission to use the castle when she pleases.
So... it now has to come down

Could he jack it up and move it a foot or two and go through the whole process again.
I know he didn't get permission and tried the backdoor method, but it was a lovely house.
