OP a 11way domestic consumer unit which has a fault on a socket circuit and requires a IR test. All in a days work for most electricians yes? Untidy wiring in a consumer unit again hardly breaking news, is it ?

Advising the OP not to open a DB until their ready ?

My point ? If you get you're knickers in a twist over a IR test on an 11way consumer unit with rcbo's don't touch a DB!
(that's 3 phase, my dad says),and only big boy's should touch them.
To give the OP comparison to his apparent stress over his task
I compare it to a corgi registered engineer in terms of stress and accountability.

You could uncouple the RCBO to give you a bit more room to play.

I tried to do that on an mk board that was only half as packed as that and it was near impossible to get the rcbo out.

I think it's a good example that all rcbo CU is not always best.

I recently fitted a similar board the Wylex posted by RFL only the recessed version, fully populated with RCBOs, although I do concede I have not yet reached the ability of RFL's fine looking work on these boards, but I am getting there. And I would expect anyone following me in, would be pleased to find everything well presented and clearly identifiable.
I think it's really an example that if put together by an arse, it becomes a pain in the arse to work on!
