Oil or water based?

Am going to paint our melamine kitchen cupboards, and would like to use a roller to avoid brush marks.

I've got International's Melamine primer.

My question is, should I use a water or oil based top coat? I want this to be very hard wearing. I want an eggshell finish if possible (not gloss)

Many thanks

I have a friend who is a cabinet maker, I wanted to paint my bathroom cabinet and he suggested Farrow and Ball oil based eggshell paint. Apparently you can buy this from Homebase. He said that if brushed on properly you are left with an easy to clean, showroom finish. He suggested that the water based paint was not as easy to clean. Farrow and Ball do have a website if you want to look. I realise your post was over a week ago so you have probably sorted this out by now.

Not at all! Thanks ver much for the answer - I was still trying to find out!
