ok guys i think i am doing this correctly but i would like some reassurance if possible from you experts

i always have my CH on in the momrings from 4-6 (when i get up) just to take the chill off.

it hasn't been coming on these last 3/4 days even though i have programmed it in. my hot water is normal and works fine.

i have a multi-meter (a digital type) and there is (V) going to my room thermostat calling wire (in the wiring centre). so this in turn should put power onto the white and grey wires in my diverter valve when calling for HTG only. I learned white and grey wires should be live (230V) when HTG only is wanted).

Does this mean the diverter valve motor is broken? or anything else ?

forget the grey that is powered from the hw off at programmer.
should have v to white.
is their v at the orange ?

i read that grey and white (and also orange now you mentioned it) were all for HTG only. (unless than means HTG only after H/W and HTG and H/W is satisified)?

Yes there are 230 (V) to orange too.

So is my motor broken? need changing?

does the diverter motor over when c/h is calling ?
if not, check that you can manually push the lever across & that it spring returns. if thats ok check there is a feed to the syncron motor. if there is, new motor required.

sounds like a spring has gone inside not pulling it back.

sorry is this with power on the white or not ?

if you have power on grey closed hw port and push the lever it will be floppy. no resistance

remove the lid on valve
if you turn your tank stat up calling for heat then turn it back down for satisfied you should hear the motor pull the valve to hw closed.

Hi

From what I know/have learned: If power to white wire but no HTG then the motor has failed and needs replaced/or the powerhead will need replacing

If the manual lever does not return then the spindle must be sized up so the whole valve needs replacing (so drain down the system to do this).

seco services - but my problem is with the heating and not the hot water

liverpoolboy - so if the spindle does not spring back i need a new diverter valve?

this is confusing now!lol
