old 2 way switch as 4 wires the new switch as 3 terminals

Hi every body can you help with this one please I’m changing some old light switches the old 2 way switch as 4 wires connected to it, the switch as 2 L1s and 2L2s the new switch as 3 terminals L1 com L2 can any one help me to solve this problem ! :cry:
 
sounds like you had an intermediate switch. how was it originally wired? are there 3 switches operating the light?

or did the switch control 2 lights? iis your new switch the same? pics would be useful
 
No just 2 switches one cable red and black was connected to both L1s the other to both L2s the L1s appears to be live I would be very grateful for any advice thanks
 
Does sound like an intermediate.

Looks like you are missing a 2 way switch somewhere - behind a wardrobw, in a cupboard, or possibly been plastered in or JB'ed.
 
Thanks for your help can I buy an intermediate switch I must admit I dint know there was such a thing :oops:
