Hi I want to have a office man cave studio type chill room for all stuff...got an old metal garage quite solid apart from doors, is it worth using this frame as a starter to shape build something around or keep as is paint and insulate with new PVC doors, or should I chuck it away and buy something like a Dunster house build type, concrete base is good to go from garage build, so just want to check what you guys would do.

That's a pretty low end structure right there. It depends how much 'turd-polishing' money you are prepared to squander or put towards a nice new shed?

Its solid enough, guess I could repaint and maybe clad it on outside then add insulation inside and on concrete floor then finish, could use breather membrane wrap outside first then clad maybe? roof needs some attention but as a shell may build on it as is...take doors off and close that end off then put doors on side looking over the fields...sound like a plan?

I think there would always be condensation problems.....I'd go for a timber type design.
Seal the concrete floor too!
John :)

Thanks chaps that makes sense now, will rip the old garage down keep the timber frame and add to, seal the concrete floor, any guidance on what sealer to use before I add insulation on top.

So, this sound right?

1. Prime floor with sealer
2. Add damp proof membrane
3. Add PIR insulation boards
4. Use frame already inside as template and complete framing - remove metal frame afterwards
5. OSB entire frame
6. Wrap breather membrane around and add batons
7. Add cladding finish - treat
8. Add floor direct over PIR boards
9. Insulate inside walls and roof with PIR
10. Plasterboard or Plywood internal walls

Demolish the shed then use the base to build your timber fella.

Lay DPM on the conc base. Let it drape beyond the edges of the base by 600mm or so.

Lay a rectangular frame of timber (75mmx 50mm laid flat) onto the slab, outlining your shed footprint.

Square up the frame.

Add some PIR insulation into the frame.

Lay the ply floor over the frame and over the sheets.

Build the shed walls in 75mm x 50mm timber stud.

Lift the 600mm excess DPM sheet overhang and staple it to the stud uprights.

Build the roof.

Add breathable membrane to the external.

Clad the external.

ETC, ETC.

Keep the shed as a shed.

Buy a 2nd hand caravan, or panel van, or luton van, for £50-£500
Park that next to your shed, run a lead over for power, there's your man cave

Thanks man, so nothing on concrete apart from DPM, make floor frame out of 3x4 treated timber, assume I screw down throught he DMP into the concrete then add floor joists in between then the PIR 100mm then add OSB...for final finish later and the DPM goes up the walls on the outside, so when floor done build walls and place on top of the floor frame and screw down...

To lovingly restore and improve it you'll need to replace the outer walls. And frame, And roof. Possibly the base too.

It's a decent shed but has no future as any kind of room.
