old slabs

setting out slabs over a old concrete base
im i right in thinking to clean and wet the base then its a soild bed of morter say 4/1 mix of building sand and cement with a dash of water proofer in the mix and as im laying them too wet the back of the slabs as i lay them its a but to but job i meen no pointing will this be ok then lads :cool:

I hope your slab laying is better than your grammar. Please try to punctuate your posts, thereby making it more likely that people who know the answer will bother to reply.

Make sure the concrete beneath is nice and clean. I would then paint it as I went with a neat cement slurry. Don't bother with the water proofer. Dont butt-join them unless they are very straight sided and the manufacturer states they are suitable for such a technique.

A 4 to 1 mortar is fine.
