I wish to replace on old radiator for a relation, I’m a jobbing builder not a plumber so bare with me, the system is the old style loop in 8 mm (or 10 mm) micro bore the pipe goes in and comes out the same place, how would I go about replacing the rad on this system, any help would be much appreciated and yes this is on of them jobs that costs me.

You'll have to alter pipework to feed each end of rad, no alternative, sorry to say.

close both parts of the valve
drain rad
take old rad valve off

take tail out of rad

remove pipe from inside of rad (unless your lucky and its still on valve)

plug opposite end of new rad

refit valve tail
refit pipe
refit valve
open both parts of valve

bleed
rad

post problems

I think you can still buy those old rad valves, they are manufactured by pegler / yorkshire and are called maxitwin.

why does he need to buy a new valve :?:

Wggikins is spot on and the others surprise me. New modern standard style rads cannot take the insertion tube that comes with twin entry valves so pipework does need altered and valve on either side

Come come old ones been twenty mins now for you to look up stelrad sites etc and post pictures to prove standard rad will take insertion tube
