old tape unsder artex falling off - why?

Thw artex in our bedroom is being skimmed over next month, i just did the donkey work for our plaster (friend of a friend) and put a scraper over it to remove any high ridges and where the tape was put to cover the existing cracks under the artex it just came off, like it was not stuck? - i pulled one loose piece and it was like a road map of Milton Keynes

I am not seeing the guy for a couple of weeks, so i was just curious to why this has happened?

Probably because it want put on in the first place, or maybe really excessive movement in the ceiling (doubtful though)

It was probably because the ifrst application of artex had dried to much before they tried to put the tape on with the next application of it.

so to stop this happening this time, what is the best stuff to use?

Where the tape comes off it should leave quite a straight line and a 'channel' where it was..I would pase the new tape on then fill over it before the Plasterer comes..or leave it to him to stick some self adhsive scrim tape on and skim over the lot.
