In response to to The DIY Gas post at the forum top it has to be said it carries an "old wives tale" within it :

"If you can prove competence, you are allowed legally to diy gas in your own home. This does not however, apply to doing gas work for family and friends even if for free!!"

If you are competent you can work on anybodies gas, you only have to be registered for work as part of a business or for reward...... Competent means exactly that and there is no law against it or any law that mentions "your own home".

I suggest you get your copy of the GSIUR out, and re-read the section on competence. It is very straightforward, and leaves little room for debate.

This subject has been done to death as much as the subject of new boilers.
