Do olives count as one of your five a day?
My little boy cant get enough of them, would like to think hes getting some goodness from them.

Olives provide some fibre, vitamin E and healthy monounsaturated oils. And yes, they do count towards your 5-a-day portions.

However, a portion of olives is about 80 grams weighed without the stones, which means you need to eat around 30 olives to make up one portion.

Unfortunately, as they are preserved in brine, this is likely to give you more salt than is healthy on a regular basis - even after you have rinsed them, they retain salt within the flesh.

I hate them.
But was out today shopping, ( 8am and you miss the crowds).
Bought about 6 or 7 jars ( The little ones with about 20 in them) of different ones with various stuffings as my sons and the misses luv em.
Even the ex raids the jars when she pops over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and they ALL love Marmite..................

We had our honeymoon on Paxos and the local olives there and the oil was superb.

I think its a bit like Alarm says..its a marmite type thing, you either love 'em or hate 'em.
Trouble is when we are away on holiday everyone tries to convince me how delicious they are, and insist that I try them just one more time :?

Have you ever tried them with other flavourings included. I find the "sting" of some finely chopped chilli peppers adds a great dimension to the overall flavour and makes it taste less..., well less "olivey" if you catch my meaning

noooooo....you see it definitely is an olive thing, you are like my friends !!
why do people who like them try torture us olive haters and try to force feed us :)
