Well call me stupid but I say we are all guilty of being compacent with our jobs. Even more ridiculous is the fact that my job is so dangerous you really shouldn't get too complacent. A few days ago I took a risk and cut a few corners knowing it is fine. A calculated risk that I knew I should get away with. BOOM how wrong I was, received a severe electric shock that would probably kill your average person.
Not had a belt for years, so a wake up call to stick to SSOW. I was a mug thinking it was ok.

I have taken risks many times too in my job. Its scary when something goes wrong!!

Luckily i have really good insurance in my job as a test pilot for Airfix.

Happened to me in a disco in 1975 when a bird hit me across the head with a handbag which might have contained a brick. Definitely a technical KO.

Don't ever any cut corners if you work with electricity.

If you get a shock, you should go to A&E and get checked. The shock can upset the heart's rhythm, and all can be fine for a while, then lights out and goodnight Vienna.

@Highway Man Risk taking is a total mug's game as you very recently found out.
When I was of working age and up until I stood back and allowed family to take over my interests, I always insisted that all direct employees or subbies should never put themselves at risk or take a chance for any reason. Jobs were always priced to allow for full safety measures and observance, or if day work then each individual must always assess safety aspects before starting the job before them.

I never put myself or others at risk.
I was disliked by many contractors because I was holding safety briefings before starting a job and during if needed.
To these days I insist on wearing PPE even for small jobs (saw dust in my eyes is something I have always disliked, even if it doesn't kill you).
I have seen people taking such risks that they shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a building site or power tools.
One of the worst was a self professed "carpenter" who was about to cut a 2 inch x 1 inch piece of oak with my table saw to make a spacer by holding it with his fingers.
Fortunately I was quicker than him losing a hand and pulled the plug.
