Hi Guys & Girls,

Right now we have an oil boiler for our central heating and an old electric water heater for hot water which is costing us the earth to heat in electricity.

The boiler is about 15 years old...

Does an oil burner exist that can heat water on demand like the gas combi ones?

Right. I need one to replace the shonky 1920's one we have right now. A plumber the other day was trying to sell us an air pump central heating system. I'm sceptical about them. Apparently they don't get the water as hot as old fashioned ones and out house struggles to get up to temperature as it has old solid brick walls.

I was quoted £10k to get one installed. Apparently "it costs nothing to run". It can't possibly cost nothing to run?! I gather 1 unit of electric can equal 4 units of heat if you like. I'd like to know how much my bills would change before going for one of those.

Get an oil combi. By the time we really get into renewables, you'll need to replace it anyway

I have to agree. I don't want to spend £10k to find that in 5 years they are half the price and double the efficiency.
