One reason why Councils get in "Consultants" !!

A mate friend is a manager at a local council on circa £100,000 pa

He was telling my mate how they're going to get consultants in to come up with recommendations/solutions to a particular problem................
.........its a tricky problem and this manager knows if he gets in consultants
and it goes pear shaped he's off the hook and can say "Well the consultants recommended it ! " therefore no personal liability/ responsibility on his part !!

My friends opinion is that if he's been paid £100,000 he should manage by making decisions !!!

As an ex-civic (29 3/4 years...) it strikes me that consultants ask to borrow your watch to tell you the time....

If hes on 100k, he wont be a manager....he will one of a couple of directors....chief executive of local council is about 150k!

If (whoever?) is fool enough to pay someone £100k to not make judgement calls, they should be binned off with them.

How great could this country be without this sort of overpaid idiocy?
