I've pretty much given up trying to get a response from Openreach as they never seem to reply and you end up going round and round the garden when you try ringing them!

We moved into a property recently and there is conduit on the outside of the house ( which houses the BT cable?) on the inside, where this conduit would be is a blank white facing plate. The Master socket is in the lounge.
However, protruding from the white faceplate is a white cable. It seems to run a short distance then buries itself under karndeen flooring. It not only looks unsightly but is positioned close to the main door that it is a hazard from getting damaged etc. I'm not sure whether it serves any useful purpose? There were extension wires dotted around the house and i'm wondering whether it is the remnants of them.
I've opened the faceplate and can see that a blue/white wire and a blue wire appear to be connected to wires inside the faceplate. There are no other wires from this cable used, just those two.
I've not touched the Master socket but can see there are no cables hanging from it (ie the other end of this odd cable by the faceplate.
Can I just snip these two wires and disregard the white cabling handing from the faceplate

Err, NO.

Your description points to the white cable (guess it's either 4 or 6 wire even though only 2 wires are used if BT/Openreach did the work) being a connection from the external cable (green and Black insulation) to the master socket which has been relocated. WhiteBlue/BlueWhite pair is the first pair in telephone internal wiring scheme. Yoyu really need to take the cover off the master socket and probably the master socket internal plate to see what is connected - think you will find the end of the whioe cable with the pair of wire connected to 2 & 5 on the internal plate.

If you have a prob - post photo's of the incoming cables and the inside of the master socket.

Sypathise with the lack of responce from Openreach.

Thank you for your reply. Will you please check back tomorrow and I'll put photo's on. But it's looking like (from your reply) that I can't do anything about this horrible wire!

So, Ive taken the master socket apart and you are correct! Thank you very much for your help. I don't need to post photo's. It all makes sense now. Saved me from a catastrophic mistake Cheers!
