Have a custom storage cabinet covered with OSB board, does it need any special primer before finishing with either emulsion or gloss paint ?

It for internal use only.

Yes, you will need a primer. OSB is highly porous and textured, which means it tends to soak up paint unevenly and can leave a blotchy finish if not properly prepped.

Oil-based or stain-blocking acrylic latex primers work best. Apply 2–3 thin coats, letting each dry fully. Avoid water-based primers as they can cause OSB to swell or peel.

Seems the Zinsser range of primers are readily available but hard to establish which of their range is best suited, eg BIN ,123, CoverStain ? any suggestions ?

I’ve used a water-based primer/undercoat, probably Dulux, with tolerable results. What sort of finish do you actually need?
