it is "earthed" thats why you get a static shock, its you that is generating the static have you nylon carpets, or similar?

Or nylon underwear?

Try removing all your clothes before approaching the filing cabinet...

Earth yourself, this makes you the same potential as the filing cabinet. You will have to walk around with a an earth cable strapped to you.

You were obviously rubbing her up the wrong way ;)

Brings back memories of my schooldays - when the nylon inside of my school blazer rubbed against my school jumper, and I always got a static shoch when I touched the metal railings in the playground.

Place f/ing cabinet on a rubber mat ... car type cut to fit. Then you can play without shocking anyone ;)

this happoened at my office. Health and safety came around and thier assessment was not only to put a rubber mat in place of a few square tile carpets but also to put tape around the door frame. Maybe there is a place where you can put the tape on the filing cabinet.

It worked for us, never got a shock. We use to get some belters from it. When anybody new came we purposely didn't tell them...

thanks for the suggestions but on second thoughts I don't think I'll do anything about it the shocks often come just at the right time, if you know what I mean (me and the secretary).

if your secretary replaces her suspenders with car earth straps your problems will be solved

Or wear one of these as a French Tickler...
