Can I tuck the rubber behind the soffit? As in prize the soffit slightly and push some membrane up there. That would mean that water couldn’t seep down the rubber into where the join is…
I'm sitting right now in a 5m x 5m room with a flat roof that was built butted up to a pitched roof on a bungalow. The soffit and fascia were removed, along with some lower tiles, but the original roof structure remains untouched.
The ceiling's a bit lower than ideal, at 2.3m, but it's perfectly fine.
It can be done, if you want a proper room rather than a botch, all without major structural work.
