just need to clarify somethign really.

is there a maximum reccomended length to an extension lead ?

my friends have a house with fields out back and horses, but are approx 300 - 500 metres away from their house at times.

however havign mains electricty down there would help massively.

so was wonderign if its possible to use an outside plug kit on this sort of length ?

obviosuly using correct equipment such as an rcd and cabling etc ..

and if it is possible woudl it create any noticable resistance and/or power wastage ?

if anyone can help would be appreciated.

also if it would be better to run it directly from the fuse box this can be arranged.

You might be better off speaking to your DNO about installing a supply to the barn

Its far too long a run to use an extension lead, and installing a proper circuit to there would need a fooking big cable

There will be an unacceptable voltage drop across that distance if you use a normal domestic extension cable. Lights and heaters might work, but anything that is voltage sensitive would struggle and might even be damaged.

Your friend's cheapest option would be to buy a portable 230V generator.

as horses are mentioned, i should point out that electics / horses dont mix too well.

anything goes wrong can kill a horse.

if it is for the horses get a supply put in and an elctrcian who knows about farm installations.

if its not for the horses, get a jenny
