Hi all,

Bit of help needed, I'm quite a novice when it comes to electrics. I'm trying to fit a 500w lamp for a garden light, I know that Ive fitted one from this wiring before but cant for the life of me remember what goes where.

I have 2 black, 2 red and 2 bare wires coming through to the outside, but have'nt got a clue what goes where! any help would be greatly received

Is there a switch for this light? if so how many lights does it opperate?

theres a double switch which operates the kitchen lights as well

One of the wires will be the feed and the other will be the switch, you need to identify which is which, with the power OFF, put a multimeter on continutity setting across one of the T&E, and have an assistant flick the switch back and forth, if its not that one, try the other one.

When you have identified the cables

Both reds go in a terminal block together
The black from the feed goes to neutral on the light
The black from the switch is sleeved as red (or brown) and goes to live on the light
The bare wires are sleeved green/yellow and go to earth on the light fitting

cheers Adam,

so I have to isolate the red wires together?

no joy im afraid, theres definately power going through as when the 2 reds were'nt in a terminal together the kitchen light wouldnt work
