outside light (low power) to put up. supplyed from the lighting circuit (3036 rewirable fuse).

the light will be able to be touched as it is above some steps that lead up to a balcony. does it need to be rcd protected even though it will be adequatelly ip rated?

if so does it make a difference if the light isnt accsesible to be touched or if it is class 2?

your are required to RCD protect sockets, but not lamps.

You can if you want to, might be handy if it gets rainwater in it (which is not unusual)

In your case one easy way would be to use an FCU with RCD incorporated, which is easily available. This will add a lot to the price of installing the lamp though, and the lighting circuit will already be suitably fused
