That design looks like the one used on lamp-posts here.these View attachment 409786 have been the standard PIR used for years, with a vent at bottom, so will not allow water to build up. Even a small 1/16 inch hole in bottom can stop water building up.
If the pre-LED situation is anything to go by, I fear that it may be more a matter of pot luck than anything else. I have several very cheap ones (which will have been Homebase or Wickes own-brand) still working fine in-service after 10-20 years (with occasional bulb replacements), yet I've had much more expensive 'reputable brand' ones that have only lasted for months.can anyone reccomend external PIR lights that will last some reasonable length of time? ideally >36 months
I bought LAP PIR floodlights ( bulbs non replaceable) from Screwfix for our previous bungalow and again when we moved here. The previous one was still working after about 7 years, the current one has been in place and working for almost 4 years. Never had any issues with them, and they're really cheap.
AsI wrote, I think it's probably always potentially a matter of 'pot luck'. Whilst I have had some very cheap Wickes/Homebase/Screwfix (LAP) ones which have lasted for very many years, I've had some much more expensive ones from 'reputable' manufacturers that have only worked for months. With LAP, it think it is pot luck. The two that I fitted and failed in less than half a year were LAP ones from screwfix.
I suppose “cheap and cheerful” does tend to come with some risk, but clearly others have had problems with more expensive options. With LAP, it think it is pot luck. The two that I fitted and failed in less than half a year were LAP ones from screwfix.
