hi
ive have a outside light which is in the way of some building work i getting done. the problem i got is when i come to move light there is only 3 inch of wire coming through external wall which is connected to light.
I drill around house brick and remove it to expose wires to see if there any more lenght on them, no there isn,t , the ? ive got is it possible to fit a type of juction box in cavity of wall and extend wires so can move light.
Also ive noticed old type coloured wires are currently fitted to light were new colours are blue and brown , which colours would connect to new colour code
any help would be appreited

You can't have the junction box in the cavity!
You can have a joint box fitted externally but must be suitably IP rated for the outdoor environment.
But making an external joint connection is notifiable work to Building Controls.
Old cores/new cores
Red = Brown
Black = Blue
Green/ = Green/
Yellow Yellow

That cable must come from somewhere! Maybe under the floor in an upstairs room? That's the proper place to extend the cable.

You need to find out where the cable goes to.

It possibly goes to a switch.

You need to work out if it's buried in the plaster, or hidden in a void, etc.

You probably need to replace the whole length of cable ideally, so you need to know where it goes to, and how replacing it will fit into your building work.

You may find a suitable place to joint the cable, again this may tie in nicely with the building work.

there is 2 grey cables running to light. i no runs to switch in kitchen were i can turn light on and of, other cable i take is under bathroom floor which is tiled, like ive stated ive removed brick from outside wall to expose cable lenght, not enogh to reposition light were i need to

You say there are two sets of cable that run to your external light,
so you have two reds, two blacks and two green/yellow coloured cable then?
If that is true and this is the only light that operated by the switch, it sounds like the you have the live supply looped in to the fitting and a set of switch cables.
So you now have two problems supply cable and switch cable.

As previously stated in other posts ideally the cable needs replacing or extending. But you can not extend it where the joints enclosure will be hidden, it must be accessible for inspection and testing purposes.
External mounted joints must be suitably IP rated and that it is notifiable work.

thanks for reply
yes you are right about cables, the main problem ive got 1 cable is under bathroom floor which has been tiled other cable is in kitchen wall which has just been plasted and painted, look like im in the poo
