I know this had been discussed before but i,m even more confused now than I was before after reading several posts.
I have a Double built in oven with a rating of 4.68KW and a Ceraric hob with a rating of 5.80KW which are 2 meters apart. My questions are how do you wire these up? Can you connect them both to the 45amp cooker outlet through a 30amp juction box? i.e. hob to jb and oven to jb and then jb to 45amp outlet switch. I may add it is imposible to run a separate cable from the fuse box to the kitchen I am using cooker cable for both items. How do I get round this problem?
Is there any other information you need?
Any help would be great Thanx.

no. you cannot use a 30A jb. mainly because there is absolutly no chance of gettin 3 6mm^2 cables into it. if your lcky, you may be able to get 3 6mm^2 cables into a cooker connection plate, if not use a 60A JBs

ABSOLUTELY NEVER JOIN TWO SUCH APPLIANCE TOGETHER.

They are seperate pieces of FIXED EQUIPMENT and should be on their own circuit if you wish to comply with common sence and BS7671.

I know that this little rule is often overlooked, but as these units are 2 meters apart they must be treated as individual kit and both have their own circuit.

I cant run another cable that option is impossible.
I cant be the only one who has had this problem there must be an easyer solution?

turn the circuit into a submain and install a mini cu, and have a cooker switch on each sub-circuit you run from the new sub-main board,

FWL_Engineer is correct, with the distance apart these appliances are, you cannot use one circuit to power them. Further, what size cable currenlty feeds this circuit, if it is 6mm, then it is not large enough regardless as it can only supply a maximum of 32A in the type of installation method you will find in your home. You must install a second circuit, there is no other option.

How close do they have be to wire up from one 45A outlet?

They should be within 1 meter ideally, but 2 meters is a definite no-no.

The regs say that they should both be within 2m of the isolating switch, both in the same room, and every stationary appliance must be controlled by a switch separate from the appliance.

BAN,

This from "Electric Wiring: Domestic" Ninth Edition (1991) AJ COKER & W TURNER. REVISED BY BRIAN SCADDAN.

Quote:

Two stationary cooking appliances installed in the same room in domestic premises may be controlled by the same switch provided that neither appliance is more than 2m from the switch. Every stationary cooking appliance must be controlled by a switch separate from the appliance.

Unquote.
