hi helpers ive got a hotpoint double oven and it keeps tripping , i think the problem is the fan as it doesnt seem to trip out with just the oven on

the other thing is that it trips out all the sockets not just the 20 amp C/B
the yellow switch/test switch is the one that trips out, main switch stays on

thanks P M

Not as easy as it first seems. There could very well be a fault on the oven. However any item with a neutral - earth fault could also be at fault and it could be just that the oven draws enough current to cause the fault to reach the critical point where it trips.

There are two instruments used to test. One measures the leakage and the other measures the resistance the latter is normally the one used. It uses 500 volt to do this job and they are not cheap.

There are also testers to test the RCD (Thing with yellow test button).

It could be a number of faults adding up or even no fault at all. The RCD also comes with many different versions some are more prone to tripping than others.

One may with some luck find the fault with a multi-meter but unless you already have one then really the test gear is too expensive so better to get some one in to test it.
