Over confident female trying to fit a ceiling light and failing!

Were u hoping for some black sleeving too?
I was hoping for all cores to be correctly identified, which they weren't before disconnecting (from what we have been told). It doesn't mean that they should have been reconnected that way though.

And it also doesn't mean that the correct combination of cores to connect together should have been guessed as opposed to assessed.

Appologies for my wrong doing Risteard. It wasn't a pure guess it was an educated one based on the information provided as I stated at the time. Admittedly there could have been some wierd stuff there so I take your point.

And BEFORE you do the next one photograph or note down how the old one is connected, so you won't have to guess how the new fitting is wired.

Winston1 just to confirm, I'm not the OP. As stated I made an educated guess based on what the OP had detailed. After drawing out the cabling at the fitting and fitting that together with a 2 gang switch and another light I deduced that the switch was on one of the 3c+e cables and the other lamp was on the other one. The continuous live was probably fed to that one to loop on to another room.

This tied up with the evidence in the photo where the wire ends looked like they had been twisted together.
