Overn Hood Extractor/Light Delayed in Starting

Over the last few days there has been a delay when I turn on the hood extractor fan and/or lights.

I flick the switch and there is a delay of anywhere between 5 and 30 seconds before the extractor starts or the lights come on.

Any ideas what might be causing this?

You don't say what make or model but I would check the connections at the switch/fcu for loose or burnt connections firstly.

Cooker hoods are often connected to something like this http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/BG950.html so that they can be fused down & isolated
