Paint edges of tile?

I generally run a small bead of decorators caulk then smooth off with a finger. If it's a cut edge don't use your finger, use something that won't bleed when you smooth it out. 
Is it a cut edge or just the natural edge of the tile?
Why not just use tile paint primer and then wollop on the black stuff. International do it and you can get it from B&Q.
