Doing my kitchen at the moment (see PROJECTS) and have found that the paint on the walls is lifting off! :(

As you see in the pics you can get a scraper under it.

Why is this and should I PVA before painting?
Thanks

This is what happens when you DO PVA before painting on new plaster walls!! Do not use PVA as a sealer on new plaster..

Yes a classic case of why pva shouldn't be used to make emulsion easier to apply on bare plaster. Seems ok whilst doing it but it leaves a lot of trouble later's.
Or. maybe the first coat of emulsion was too thick, so just lay ontop of dusty plaster?

Scrape back to sound paint, use thinned emulsion to seal the bare plaster. make good with easyfill along the ridge of old/bare plaster, seal the easyfill with very thin emulsion, finish with 2 coats of your paint.

Could also be a case of the first coat going on unthinned too..

I think by the way thats coming off your going to have to do the lot..try and take the lot off mate and give it a mist coat..

I just had to do the same to a whole room  . Thought about mist coat with trade matt. But invested £ 40 in a tin of Zinsser Bullseye 1-2-3 water based primer sealer. Brilliant stuff :!: literally saved my not sleeping in case the mist coat wasn`t up to the job ;)
