20 year old untreated pine T&G cladding (on interior wall of outhouse) ..want to paint the wall white but so the grain shows through.
Is there a type/brand of paint you can use straight out of the tin that's designed to do this?..or is it a case of mixing a sort of "whitewash" with latex paint and water. Thanks

I usually use a water-based matt varnish and add a little vinyl matt to get the effect I want.

thanks Joe..when you say a little vinyl matt..roughly what proportions..I know I have to do a test piece first but just interested what works for you. how much white paint to say to 1 litre of the w-b varnish.

Any recommendations re brands..especially re the water-based matt varnish..but also the vinyl matt?

The effect of which you are trying to achieve is known as colour washing, sometimes referred to as pickling, or indeed rustic. It involves the application of either a stain/varnish or paint system in a highly diluted form, so to achieve this effect you need to thin your product at around 50% or more to achieve the desired result.
