I would disagree with the small paint brush but each to their own. A larger brush is easier to control. If you aren't a confident painter then bring the corners in with a small brush, but using a 2" or 3" brush will give you better control and a neater line as long as you have a steady hand. For me 3" every time unless there are small areas to get past, i.e fixings close to corners. Damp cloth yes. You risk pulling off the paint if you use masking tape although it depends on the finish.
