painting cast iron drainpipes

I want to gloss my drainpipes with Dulux Weathershield exterior gloss. pretty sure a couple undercoats are needed but not sure what type or make of undercoat and also is rubbing down necessary to provide a key?

I'd be completely lost without this forum...many thanks, once again!!!

Rub down....Dulux undercoat and gloss.
