My Timber windows and external doors are showing signs of wear especially at the back of my house where they are south facing.
They are installed about 20 years without maintenance so far from what i can tell. They appear to have a factory varnish finish - wood is vsible so they arent currently painted.
I am planning to paint them becasue to oil them would involve acomplete sanding back to bare wood.
Was initially thinking oil based but it seems water based is a viable option these days so to make the job easier i am now leaning towards water based.
I have narrowed my choice to Zinnser 123 and Allcoat or Tikkurila Ultra Primer and Ultra Classic.
Zinsser seems to get a lot of positive reviews so leaning in the Zinsser direction but welcome thoughts or advice from anyone familiar with either brands or other recomendations if my approach seems flawed.
