We are giving our fireplace a makeover and the wife would like to pint our wooden fireplace white. we have a woodburner and I'd like to know if I need to use any special paint, or can i just use regular wood paint.

Depends on proximity to heat from fire , though current timber should not be getting hot so paint type isn’t crucial but likely to discolour quickly .
