Painting Kitchen doors

Hi
I am thinking about painting my kitchen unit doors as they are made of solid wood and of good quality.
They are dark oak in colour and I want to paint them cream.
Firstly what is the best way to prepare before painting.
Secondly what would make the best finnish brush roller or spraying (that is if there is a product on the market that can be sprayed).
Any advice would be greatly apreciated.

What finish is on the Oak ?

umm looks like woodstain, I dont think its varnish, certainly not high gloss more of a matt finish.

Wash down with diluted Sugar Soap. Then slightly rub down. Then apply one coat of Zamix Coverseal. Then apply Two coats of Oil Based Satinwood in any colour of your choice. You can get Zamix from this link http://www.tbsmerchants.co.uk/cgi-bin/build/product/DEZP.html
