Hi,

I got recommended to paint an old bedside table with chalk paint. Id never heard of it before but seems an interesting way of brightening up old furniture.

Can anyone recommend a good brand of paint for this job?

Chalk paint is essentially cheapo matt emulsion. As available in any DIY shack in 10 litre tubs for £10.
Buy the white and if you want different colours, put a bit of powder paint in it - available from any craft or toy shop.
Slap several coats on, 'distress' the edges using sandpaper, apply some clear wax over the top if you want.
Then claim it's been upcycled or whatever at vast cost.

You could try Barrow and Fall in "distressed pot cupboard" colour ;)

Just renovated two bedsides and a chester with rustoleoum from B&Q, pretty decent tbh, i primed but probably wasn't worth while.

Chalk paint is a swizz. They claim you can paint with no prep. They lie. It comes off easily.
Prime properly if you want a proper finish. But if you just want to flog it on Gumtree then by all mean use chalk paint.
