painting over perviously painted tiles

Someone before painted the kitchen tiles in non tile paint which looks poor and paint is peeling on some of them

Can I paint over pre painted tiles using proper tile paint? Will this work or just look rubbish?

Removing all the tiles and re-tiling would be too expensive.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggest a method or best tile paint?

The old rule is never paint tile - no matter using "proper paint" - there are too many variables to go wrong.

Removing the tile and starting afresh is the only reasonable solution.

Perhaps post this in Painters forum?
