Painting over screw / nail heads

Hi,

I am looking for some advice regarding gloss painting over nail heads in a door frame. The previous owners had a new door to garage installed and the new frame has what looks like nail or screw heads flush to the wood surface. Gloss paint over them has gone all brown in a circle, as in photos.

Does anyone have any good easy ways to resolve this. I dont think painting straight over again will work.

Zinsser BIN Shellac.

They look like knots rather than screwheads. The shellac paint recommended by Bonni should help but sometimes particularly resinous knots need to be drilled out (yours don't look too bad though).
